Lithium battery separator war
In the new energy war, as Chinese lithium battery companies grew up, unwilling Americans began to think of the internal battery materials.
On October 30, 2019, Celgard, a former lithium battery separator giant, sued Xingyuan Materials and its subsidiary "Xingyuan American Research Institute" in Shenzhen, China, in the Oakland Division of the Northern District Court of the US Federal District of California. The reasons for litigation are:
"Infringe its patent rights, infringe on trade secrets, unfair competition, induce breach of contract, and intentionally interfere with potential economic relations."
Although it was dismissed by local courts in the United States more than three months later, the long soap opera-like "lawsuit" has not ceased. After all, for Celgard, there are not too many serious things that can be done now. In the field of dry membranes that was once proud, Celgard has gradually lost market share due to the gradual loss of technology and price advantages.
Beginning in 2013, LG Chem, SK, Sumitomo, MTI, Targray... Any half of the influential battery separator companies have been on Celgard's prosecution list. But embarrassingly, Celgard mostly ended in defeat or settlement.
