Top 10 companies in power battery installed capacity in the first three quarters
In the first three quarters, the top 10 power battery installed capacity companies were CATL, BYD, LG Chem, CALB, Gotion High-Tech, EVE Energy, Time SAIC, Lishen, Panasonic, and Farasis Energy.
Market competition is intensifying, and there are many variables in China's power batteries in 2020.
Statistics from the "Monthly Power Battery Database" show that from January to September, the domestic production of new energy vehicles was approximately 692,000, a year-on-year decrease of 17%, and the installed capacity of power batteries was approximately 34.15GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 19%.
In terms of quarters, the first quarter of this year had the most serious impact, with a decline of more than 70% in February. The second quarter gradually returned to the right track. After a slight decline in May, it entered the growth channel in June. The market rebounded in the third quarter. After bottoming out in July, August ushered in a growth turning point with a year-on-year increase of over 40%.
In terms of the appearance and shape of the battery, driven by the strong demand for the domestic Model 3, the cylinder has become the only new battery force that grows. In the first three quarters, the installed capacity of cylindrical batteries increased by 87.25% year-on-year to 5.83GWh, accounting for 17% of the overall ratio. The prismatic battery is still the main force, with installed capacity of 26.37GWh, a decrease of 25.79% year-on-year; while the soft-pack battery has the sharpest drop of nearly 50%.
In terms of material system, NCM materials are still the mainstream, accounting for 67.7%. The proportion of lithium iron phosphate installed capacity has increased to nearly 30%, which is mainly due to the acceleration of the layout of LFP main models by passenger car companies such as BAIC, BYD, SAIC, and SAIC Wuling. In addition, models equipped with CATL lithium iron phosphate have been launched, and the proportion of LEP installed in the passenger car sector is expected to increase in 2020.
