The reporter learned from exclusive channels that cobalt-free batteries include two chemical systems and corresponding routes, namely mass production of supporting lithium iron phosphate batteries and immature cobalt-free batteries based on ternary NMC cathode materials and the latter will take time to become industrialized.

When the concept of cobalt-free batteries came out, the market focused on lithium iron phosphate batteries. However, compared with the ternary lithium batteries currently used in passenger cars, lithium iron phosphate batteries except cobalt-free, energy density and technological innovation are “old” technology.

Industry experts close to Tesla's domestic projects told reporters that Tesla will use lithium iron phosphate batteries, and it is a square lithium iron phosphate battery in the CATL.
