How Much Lithium Carbonate Is Needed In An Electric Car

First of all, judging from a big assessment, someone once investigated lithium iron phosphate battery companies.According to them, about 1GWh of lithium iron phosphate battery requires 2000-2500 tons of cathode material, and one ton of lithium iron phosphate material requires about 0.25 tons of lithium carbonate( LiCoO2 )

From a micro point of view: a 60kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, a car needs 30kg lithium carbonate;

From a macro point of view: if we calculate according to a 60kWh car, 100,000 cars 6GWh and 1 million 60GWh, the corresponding demand for lithium carbonate is 30,000 tons respectively.According to China's lithium carbonate output in 2020 is 166,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%, of which battery-grade lithium carbonate production is 106,000 tons, and industrial-grade lithium carbonate production is 60,000 tons.That is to say, 100,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate, all made of lithium iron phosphate batteries correspond to 200GWh.

At that time, another argument was that 0.25 tons of lithium carbonate was used as a positive electrode lithium iron phosphate material of 10,000 tons, corresponding to 4-5GWh batteries, which was related to the difference in energy density.
